Julia Hunter is a documentary director, producer and cinematographer whose work resists objectivity and centers survivorship‭, harm reduction and the politics of personal archive.

Julia is a 2025 Film Independent Fellow with the feature This is Me Loving You, an intimate portrait revealing the intersection of addiction and domestic abuse that begins in a Chicago recovery home where she lived for over two years. 

This is Me Loving You is supported by ITVS, BAVC, Big Sky Pitch, Jihlava and others.

In 2023, Julia joined Big C Creative to direct Gertrude, a hybrid documentary produced by Christina Shaver exploring the surrealist painter Gertrude Abercrombie’s tumultuous life and posthumous rise.

Julia lives in Chicago with her cat, Hazard. She is currently looking for a hobby, per the advice of concerned friends.
